Motor can be divided into many types. This time, we mainly introduce DC motors:

DC Motor

Principle: It is powered by a DC power supply, and the rotor current is reversed through brushes and commutators to generate continuous torque.

Subdivision type:

Permanent magnet DC Motor (PMDC Motor)

Features: It adopts permanent magnets as the stator magnetic field, featuring a simple structure, small size, high efficiency, and no need for excitation current.

Applications: Household appliances (such as electric shavers, hair dryers), car wipers, robot joint drives.

Electromagnetic DC motor

Shunt DC motor: The excitation winding is connected in parallel with the armature winding, ensuring stable speed and suitable for constant-speed loads (such as textile machinery).

Series-excited DC motor: The excitation winding is connected in series with the armature. It has a large starting torque and the speed varies significantly with the load. It is often used in power tools (such as electric drills) and rail transit traction.

Compound-excited DC motor: It combines the characteristics of both shunt and series excitation, balancing speed stability and starting capability, and is used in cranes and elevators.

Advantages: Wide speed regulation range and high control accuracy; Disadvantages: There is brush wear, the maintenance cost is relatively high, and it is not suitable for high-dust environments.
